Outlast is a modern take on horror, dissecting aspects of what makes the mind tremble with fear. The game, originally released in 2013, takes place in an asylum where you, the player and main character, are tasked with unraveling the mysteries of the secluded psychiatric hospital, only to find out something more malicious is taking place. The main theme I wanted to build into this sequence was the aesthetic of analog horror, so much of the footage relates to VHS-style analog, box TVs, and glitch-style transitions. I also experimented with inks mixed with rubbing alcohol and mineral oil.

This title sequence invites both fans of the franchise and casual viewers to unravel the mysteries that lie within the story. The overall development of this trailer will not only stay true to its predecessor, but will create its own narrative and reimagining of the wonderful and terrifying game of Outlast.
